It is the smallest and lightest zoom in its class*. Remaining true to the Contemporary line’s core concept of maintaining an optimal balance between optical quality and size, this new lens delivers professional-quality results in a body small enough to be carried around at all times. The optical design of the SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is based on that of the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, which is renowned for its outstanding optical performance throughout its zoom range. True to the core concept of the Contemporary line, the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary has been developed to offer the right balance of performance and portability, and as such, this large-aperture standard zoom delivers exceptional image quality that rivals Art line optics for everyday use. Drawing on cutting-edge technology, the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary features an advanced optical design that includes three aspherical elements, two FLD elements, and two SLD elements. Despite using fewer total elements than the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, its design offers full correction of axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma aberration, aberrations that cannot be corrected in-camera, allowing users to create images that are consistently sharp from the center to the edges of the frame. Its design prevents ghosting, and the use of Super Multi-Layer and Nanoporous Coatings minimizes flare and delivers high-contrast results in backlit conditions. It also features a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front of the optics. This makes it the smallest and lightest zoom in its class.* It features a single, lightweight focusing element that keeps the AF unit compact, and this, together with a fast, quiet pulse motor, makes for truly agile autofocus performance. Excellent build quality with special attention to detail

Prioritizing optimal portability, the body of the SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is comprised primarily of lightweight components. While plastic parts are said to be more difficult to ensure precision processing than metallic ones, there has been no sacrifice in the build quality of the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary. This is because a polycarbonate called TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) has been used, which has a level of thermal contraction comparable to that of aluminum.
