Atomos Shogun 7 is a precision HDR switcher-recorder-monitor designed for film and video professionals. It can be used as a standalone field monitor, recorder, and switcher for events, documentaries, and live storytelling in the field; or as a tool for large-scale episodic TV, film, and cinema productions where multiple crew members—such as focus pullers, grips, and cinematographers—require a consistent visual reference across the entire field monitor ecosystem. Shogun 7’s portable size lets you monitor, analyze, and label while on set; and check how your content will look in your audience’s home via real-time Dolby Vision output. With Shogun 7, you’re not locked into any one format, camera manufacturer, or pipeline. It’s a completely flexible recording and production master station.

Live multi-cam has never been more portable.

A new era of affordable, portable, and intuitive multi-camera production has begun. Simply touch the Shogun 7 screen to switch between four live HD SDI video streams up to 1080p60. Send the resulting switched program output to SDI to HDMI for broadcast or live streaming. Record all four inputs as separate ISOs, plus the program output as a fifth stream. All of this is done asynchronously, without the need for genlocked sources.

All transitions are recorded as metadata with a choice of transition type. Once you're done capturing your streams, simply import the resulting Apple Final Cut XML file along with your ISOs into your NLE, and the timeline will automatically populate with all the transitions in place.

Audio is also taken care of; each ISO can record the embedded two-channel digital audio from each source, as well as the mixed analog stereo channels input to the Shogun 7 (via the optional XLR connection cable). The program feed always records the analog feed and switches between audio inputs so that the camera audio matches the switched feed.

Single-camera narration in 4K or 2K slow motion

4K capture is now becoming a requirement for streaming content providers. With the latest HDMI 2.0v you can capture up to 4Kp60 on any available camera, or via Quad Link, Dual Link or Single Link. If slow motion capture is important to your production, Shogun 7 lets you capture 2K up to 240p. You can tag on the fly while recording for direct editing in Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere* and Avid Media Composer.

Atomos technology brings the real world to your monitor.

Introducing Dynamic AtomHDR technology, engineered by Atomos to produce a display contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. With Shogun 7, blacks and colors are rich and deep. Images appear to “pop” with greater dimensionality and detail. The incredible Atomos display uses a unique combination of advanced LED and LCD technologies that together deliver deeper, better blacks than rival OLED displays, but with the much higher brightness and vivid color performance of high-end LCDs. Objects appear more lifelike than ever before, with complex textures and gradations beautifully revealed. A new 360-zone backlight combines with our new display technology and is controlled by the Dynamic AtomHDR engine to display millions of shades of brightness and color, producing stunning results. It allows Shogun 7 to display over 15 stops of true dynamic range on screen. The panel is also incredibly accurate, with ultra-wide colors and 105% DCI-P3 coverage. For the first time, you can enjoy the same on-screen dynamic range, color palette, and shades that your camera sensor sees.

The challenge with HDR production is maintaining the creative intent of the production at the time of filming versus the finished product seen on devices and TVs. AtomOS and Dolby have teamed up to bring you Dolby Vision HDMI live, in real time, from any SDI or HDMI HDR camera. All courtesy of AtomOS 10.

Simply connect your Dolby Vision-compatible TV or monitor to your Shogun 7 or Ninja V, and AtomOS magically analyzes the image, consults the TV, and applies the correct color and brightness profiles for the maximum HDR image on the display or TV. This ensures that the HDR image always looks as it was creatively intended by the creator. This is a valuable on-set reference check for the creative director and the client.

This feature is also available in playback and playback from RAW and ProRes RAW, ProRes, and DNx for instant, time-saving review, on set and in the studio. Use playback features like slow motion and insert edit points and in/out points to speed up playlist compilation.

ProRes RAW video capture with Shogun 7 unlocks the true potential of your RAW cinema camera and gives you complete control over your video image with the highest possible quality.

ProRes RAW combines the flexibility of RAW video with the incredible performance of ProRes. Import, edit, and grade pristine video with RAW data directly from your camera's sensor without slowing down your editing. These RAW files provide maximum flexibility to fine-tune the look of your video, while enhancing brightness and shadow detail. The ideal combination for HDR workflows.

Shogun 7 preserves the maximum dynamic range, color accuracy, and detail of your content. Colors can be easily matched, and the additional information means images can be easily manipulated in post-production, which is especially useful for grading and VFX shots.

Balanced audio.

Eliminate the need for a separate audio recorder. Add 48V stereo microphones via the balanced XLR connection cable. Select Mic or Line input levels, and record up to 12 channels of digital audio from HDMI or SDI. Monitor the selected stereo audio via the 3.5mm headphone jack. Dedicated meters, gain controls, and frame delay adjustments are available.
